Your names have appeared in a recent list published by an international financial magazine.
\nThe Turkish edition ran the list under the headline: “Billionaire Turks”, noting that \u201cThe total wealth of the 35 Turks on the billionaires list stands at $79.5 billion. This is a record.\u201d<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Some of you are members of the same family; others are business partners.
\nUpon closer examination, this immense wealth is concentrated in just 23 holdings, partnerships, or families. In a country of 86 million people, roughly 30 individuals from 14 wealthy families now rank among the richest billionaires in the world.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We are not writing to congratulate you, nor to demand anything.
\nWe are writing to confront you with facts you can no longer conceal and to remind you of a few realities.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Turkey\u2019s gross national income reached approximately $1.322 trillion in 2024 \u2014 a substantial figure. Divided by the population, that results in a per capita income of about $15,000. The government boasts that \u201cTurkey is now a high-income country by World Bank standards.\u201d<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There is, in fact, a high income -but the working class sees little of it. While millions struggle with poverty, your small group of ultra-wealthy business owners possesses more wealth than the combined annual income of 40 million people in Turkey. This doesn\u2019t even include the undisclosed sums you\u2019ve tucked away in offshore accounts.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
You have a favorite government official \u2014 the AKP\u2019s Minister of Treasury and Finance, Mehmet \u015eim\u015fek. For nearly two years, he has overseen an austerity program that has hit working people hard. The population has grown poorer. The minimum wage fell below the poverty line just three months after it was set. Pensions for retirees barely qualify as handouts. And every year, thousands of workers are killed in workplace homicides while you accumulate ever more wealth.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
How is it that your fortunes grow, even as workers grow poorer, workers die, and millions face a future clouded by uncertainty? Yes, the Turkish economy is growing -but the fruits of that growth are divided among a select few. Your companies continue to post record profits. Government incentives flow uninterrupted in your direction. Tax exemptions and privileges for your businesses show no sign of stopping.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
This is inequality on a staggering scale. This is injustice at its core. What creates this inequality and injustice is the exploitation that prevails in Turkey thanks to you. You have established a system in which people exploit people, and a handful of families like yours have seized the country’s resources through various means\u2014and now you are enjoying its benefits. To put it more clearly: the billions of dollars in wealth that are widely publicized in the press represent riches created by the sweat and labor of Turkey\u2019s working class.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In our eyes, the greatest crime is the exploitation of people by people -and you are responsible for this crime.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The working class will reclaim the wealth it has created.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Everything that you have taken will be returned to the people who earned it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And when this system of exploitation and plunder is finally dismantled, the wealth of this country will belong equally to those who built it.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Only then will justice and equality truly prevail in Turkey.<\/p>\n

En la edici\u00f3n turca, la lista fue presentada bajo el t\u00edtulo \u201cLos turcos multimillonarios en d\u00f3lares\u201d. Justo debajo se le\u00eda: \u201cLa fortuna total de los 35 turcos en la lista de multimillonarios asciende a 79,5 mil millones de d\u00f3lares. Es un r\u00e9cord\u201d.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Hay quienes sois de la misma familia, quienes compart\u00eds sociedades. Es decir, si se observa de cerca, los verdaderos propietarios de esta riqueza son 23 holdings, socios o familias. En un pa\u00eds de 86 millones de personas, form\u00e1is parte de las familias de 14 grandes fortunas y con poco m\u00e1s de 30 nombres os encontr\u00e1is entre los multimillonarios en d\u00f3lares m\u00e1s ricos del mundo.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Que no se malinterprete: no escribimos esta carta para felicitaros ni para pediros nada. Escribimos para recordaros ciertas cosas y enfrentaros con una realidad que ya no pod\u00e9is seguir ocultando.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n El ingreso nacional total de Turqu\u00eda en 2024 alcanz\u00f3 aproximadamente 1 bill\u00f3n 322 mil millones. Una cifra elevada. Dividiendo este ingreso entre la poblaci\u00f3n del pa\u00eds, se obtiene una renta anual per c\u00e1pita de 15.000 d\u00f3lares. El AKP anunci\u00f3 con orgullo que \u201cseg\u00fan los criterios del Banco Mundial, Turqu\u00eda ya forma parte de los pa\u00edses de renta alta\u201d. S\u00ed, hay ingresos altos. Pero poco de esos ingresos llega a los trabajadores. En cambio, la fortuna de unos pocos ricos propietarios de holdings, entre los que est\u00e1is vosotros, supera los ingresos totales de 40 millones de personas que viven en Turqu\u00eda. Y eso sin contar lo que no se declara, lo que se amontona en cuentas bancarias en el extranjero.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ten\u00e9is a un ministro que os gusta mucho. El ministro de Hacienda y Finanzas del AKP, Mehmet \u015eim\u015fek. Lleva casi dos a\u00f1os aplicando un programa de austeridad. Y el coste de este programa para la clase obrera ha sido alt\u00edsimo. La gente se ha empobrecido. El salario m\u00ednimo cay\u00f3 por debajo del umbral de pobreza en apenas tres meses. Mejor ni hablemos de las pensiones que se otorgan como limosna a los jubilados. Y mientras vosotros acumul\u00e1is esas fortunas, cada a\u00f1o perdemos a miles de hermanos trabajadores en \u201caccidentes laborales\u201d.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u00bfC\u00f3mo puede ser que, mientras el pueblo se empobrece, los trabajadores mueren en sus centros de trabajo y millones de personas ya no puedan ver su futuro, vosotros sig\u00e1is enriqueci\u00e9ndoos? La econom\u00eda turca crece. Pero ese pastel en crecimiento solo lo compart\u00eds entre vosotros, unos pocos ricos. Las empresas de las que sois socios o propietarios siguen anunciando beneficios y ganancias r\u00e9cord. Las subvenciones estatales os llegan sin interrupci\u00f3n. Las exenciones fiscales y privilegios que se otorgan a vuestras empresas no se acaban nunca.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Existe una profunda desigualdad e injusticia. Y quienes han creado esta desigualdad e injusticia sois vosotros, que hab\u00e9is instaurado en Turqu\u00eda un sistema basado en la explotaci\u00f3n. Hab\u00e9is montado y disfrut\u00e1is de un orden en el que el ser humano explota al ser humano, y unos pocos como vosotros se apropian por diferentes medios de todos los recursos del pa\u00eds. Para hablar claro: esa fortuna de miles de millones de d\u00f3lares que los medios anuncian a bombo y platillo representa una riqueza creada con el sudor de los trabajadores de Turqu\u00eda.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Desde nuestro punto de vista, el mayor crimen es la explotaci\u00f3n del ser humano por otro ser humano. Y vosotros est\u00e1is cometiendo ese gran crimen.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sabed que la clase obrera y los trabajadores recuperar\u00e1n la riqueza que ellos mismos han creado y que vosotros hab\u00e9is confiscado y acumulado. Y sabed tambi\u00e9n que cuando vuestro orden de saqueo y explotaci\u00f3n llegue a su fin, todas las riquezas de Turqu\u00eda ser\u00e1n compartidas equitativamente por el pueblo trabajador.
