When the great leader of the Cuban revolution, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, passed away eight years ago, the Cuban people said goodbye to him by saying \u201cYo soy Fidel\u201d (I am Fidel).<\/p>\n

This phrase, which some saw as a romanticism that would fade over time, was a great one.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Because being Fidel wasn’t just about repeating his words. Being Fidel was to resist where everyone saw impossibility without looking at the odds, to dream fearlessly and to keep achieving new victories without never giving up.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Being Fidel was to roll up one’s sleeves without losing a second in the face of extreme difficulties, to make the optimism of the shoulder-to-shoulder struggle the greatest weapon of the Cuban people.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Cuban people have repeatedly shown how true that phrase, made eight years ago, is. They showed it during the pandemic through the vaccines they produced and by reaching out to more than 40 countries, when they passed the world\u2019s most refined family law by referendum, when they faced the devastating financial barriers created by being added to the US’ so-called ‘states sponsors of terrorism’ list, and this year, through the tremendous unity, solidarity, and dedication they exhibited after two hurricanes and a severe earthquake.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fidel was one of the greatest revolutionaries of the 20th century. The strength of the legacy he had left behind once again showed how great he was.<\/p>\n

Ser Fidel era resistir donde todos ve\u00edan imposibilidad sin importar las dificultades, so\u00f1ar sin miedo y seguir logrando nuevas victorias sin rendirse<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Ser Fidel era arremangarse sin perder un segundo frente a dificultades inmensurables, convertir el optimismo que brinda la lucha hombro con hombro en la mayor arma del pueblo cubano.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n El pueblo cubano ha demostrado una y otra vez cu\u00e1n cierta era esa frase dicha hace ocho a\u00f1os Lo demostraron durante la pandemia a trav\u00e9s de las vacunas que produjeron y al llegar a m\u00e1s de 40 pa\u00edses, cuando aprobaron por refer\u00e9ndum la ley de familia m\u00e1s refinada del mundo, cuando enfrentaron las devastadoras barreras financieras creadas por su inclusi\u00f3n en la lista fabricada de ‘pa\u00edses patrocinadores del terrorismo’ de los EE.
