TKP General Secretary<\/span> Kemal Okuyan shared his assessments and observations, as well as the rescue and solidarity efforts to<\/span> Tele1 TV, from the emergency desk of TKP<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>in Antakya<\/span>\u00a0<\/a>, one of the most severely affected regions.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The emergency desk was launched immediately after the<\/span> earthquake<\/span> and we were the first organized group to provide support in this district<\/span> Armutlu<\/span> of<\/span> Antakya<\/span>, thanks to the ceaseless flow of aid materials from different parts of Turkey. We have been able to provide food, healthcare and first aid, heating, logistical support and some comrades joined the search and rescue efforts. Our teams work organized in shifts, and we are trying to reach nearby districts as well.Here what is essential is to act in an organized, planned and functional manner. We had a similar experience when the earthquake hit \u0130zmir (2020) and it is no coincidence that TKP can act responsibly and well-organized. However, the government, with its anti-scientific and pro-market policies, exploited and exhausted all resources of this country, abandoned central planning and couldn’t function. Had the search and rescue efforts started optimally and timely, losses would have been 10-fold less. Had the construction machinery and equipments not been in the hands of private sector, had there not been grave mistakes in the construction of transportation facilities, the outcomes could have been much different”, said Kemal Okuyan, \u200b\u200breminding that the<\/span> TKP<\/span>‘s presence at the region is not for political purposes but humanitarian aid and solidarity, which is clearly seen by the people, who express their trust and confidence in<\/span> TKP<\/span>. Okuyan called for more aid materials, blankets, and so forth. “As of the 4th day, search and rescue efforts yield less promising outcomes, but now is time to consider the future of these people and cities. The same mistakes, same exploiting companies, owners of those who turned the cities into graves are not to be allowed again!”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
