We have a promise for tomorrow: We will build a new country, together!
More than a month has passed since the catastrophe we experienced. As we are welcoming 8 March this year, we continue to experience a great devastation in which we have lost tens of thousands of people and have to abandon the cities we used to live in.
The difficulties we are experiencing are mounting. The pandemic, economic crisis, rising costs of living, poverty… In our country, which has literally turned into a wreck for workers, we are wondering how we will pay our bills, our rent, how we will meet our children’s school expenses, how long such high costs of living will last. All these conditions, together with greater degrees of exploitation and reaction towards working women, make it even more difficult for them to breathe in this order.
Those who have sacrificed human life to rents, market and profits have still not been able to fully compensate for any need in the earthquake zone since the first moment. The government, which makes judgements on how many children we will give birth to, when we will start working, what we will wear, how we will live, dared to refer to a “fate plan” again, while the country was on fire. The capitalists and their political representatives, on the other hand, are rubbing their hands in the face of the wreckage that has collapsed on us, seeking to sign new tenders and shadow us under their dark reaction.
Our pain is huge, yes, but our anger is also growing! We have an account to settle with this order that tries to take away our present and future!
We are not helpless! Can women who work hard for solidarity in their neighbourhoods and workplaces for days; who deliver the most basic needs to our citizens day and night in the earthquake zone, who extend solidarity, can they be helpless?
Despite this darkness, we are hopeful because we are together! Because these difficult days have once again shown us what being organised, standing together, and solidarity can lead to!
We are determined! We demand a planned and statist economy, socialist and egalitarian policies, a secular political order, an independent and sovereign country, right now, not to suffocate under the rubble again!
The women who took to the streets a century ago demanding “Bread and Peace” are rising up today to eliminate exploitation, to overthrow this social order of robbery that turns life into a wreck for workers!
And we promise, they will not be able to get away with what happened after this disaster! We will build a new country, together!
