Women are forced to work for lower salaries and are exposed to discrimination in Turkey and around the world.
In Turkey, only one-third of women are employed, half of whose are subject to unregistered and precarious employment. For every 2.6 liras paid per hour for men, rates drop down to 1 lira per hour for women. Every one out of three women is subject to violence, a rape of a woman takes place in every four hours. Women are exposed to discrimination and humiliation, and murderers of women receive abatement of sentence for “good conduct”. Childhood marriages are trying to be put under legal covers, “adultery” is pushed into discussions about measures against child abuse.
The reactionism of capitalism decides for women, whether they are going to stay at home and serve for the care of their family or work low-paid and flexibly at the service of bosses. They are poking their noses into where a woman can laugh, how many children she gives birth to, or when she starts working.
The Communist Women are inviting to the fight against capitalism, which is the cause of extended working hours, of double-exploitation with flexible working conditions and temporary employment, of secondary roles for women in social life, of all kinds of violence at home and in public. The Communist Women says “No” to the exploitation of our labour, our bodies and lives, against the obedient society that is trying to be created.
We don’t want to live in capitalism which cannot provide neither equality, nor freedom, nor justice. We want to work in equal conditions, to freely stroll around without the need for anybody’s protection, to make our decisions ourselves, on what to wear, whether to become a mother or not, or how to live. We are inviting all women to struggle, to strengthen the struggle towards socialism for living in a bright Turkey, where women are equal elements of the society from the beginning, instead of living under capitalism, which is the source of inequality, reactionary oppressions and threats, harassments and rapes.
The Communist Women are calling for all those who say “No to Exploitation, Reactionism and Sexual Abuse!” to meet on the 8th of March, at 19.30 in Kadıköy.
