Two years ago, in 2019, the 21st International Meeting of Communist and Workers’ Parties was held in İzmir, and the meeting, in which nearly eighty parties were represented, was jointly hosted by the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). At this successful meeting, the next meeting was decided to be held in Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Due to the restrictions posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, a meeting could not be held last year. However, this year, again under the joint responsibilities of the Communist Party of Turkey and the Communist Party of Greece, the parties are meeting via an extraordinary teleconference.
The theme of the extraordinary teleconference will be “The international economic, political and military developments. The experience from the struggle of the Communist and Workers’ parties and the peoples. Solidarity with Cuba, the Palestinian people, to all the peoples struggling against sanctions, machinations and imperialist aggression.” as decided at the Working Group meeting last month.
A total of seventy-two parties will attend the meeting, which will start today. The opening speeches of the meeting will be made by Secretary General Kemal Okuyan on behalf of TKP and Secretary General Dimitris Kutsumbas on behalf of KKE.
