This time, the place where dozens of people lost their lives is not a mine. Nor is it a factory producing explosives or a construction site with a collapsed scaffold. This time, the workplace is a hotel where dozens of families went to rest with their children during the semester break. Following a fire that broke out at dawn in this hotel in Bolu city, there are casualties, injured people, and citizens who have still not yet been heard. Reports also indicate that the death toll is far higher than initial statements announced.
Once again, we are faced with a workplace where even the simplest measures to ensure the safety of hundreds of people inside have not been taken. It is clear that there was no proper inspection. It is clear that, as in many other workplaces, human life ranks at the very bottom of the list of priorities here.
We are watching developments with great concern. TKP organization in the city is doing its utmost to provide solidarity and support, both in the area where the hotel is located and at the hospitals, for citizens trying to reach their loved ones.
We will fight with all our strength to hold accountable the negligence, profiteering, and mindset that disregards human life.
