We have learned with great sorrow that a terrible train accident occurred in Greece late night on February 28.
As we are still trying to heal the wounds of our people after the massive earthquakes in Türkiye, we feel deep inside the pain of the people of Greece and we share their great sorrow for the railway disaster.
We express our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all people of Greece. We wish all the injured and affected people a quick recovery.
It is a real tragedy that dozens of people have already lost their lives and the number is unfortunately expected to increase. It is also tragic to know that the coming of this disaster was already foreseen as a result of the privatization of the railways. It was being discussed by the communists of Greece, by the trade unions and the scientists that the insufficient budget allocated to the infrastructure and operation, the deficiency of coordination among actors and staff reduction called the accident and the ambition for profit in the market economy took the people’s lives one more time.
We call for standing with the people of Greece who showed outstanding solidarity with our people after the recent earthquake in Türkiye.
