TKP Delegation was at the Founding Meeting of the European Communist Action

19 November 2023

The European Communist Action, a new regional co-operation between communist and workers’ parties in Europe, announced its foundation at a meeting in Athens on 18 November.

The aim of this co-operation is to strengthen political and ideological commonality by increasing communication between parties acting in line with the principles of Marxism-Leninism and defending the actuality of socialist revolution, to strengthen the parties’ ties within the working class and their common concrete struggles, and to create a real revolutionary focus that will energise the revolutionary struggle in Europe.

At the meeting hosted by the Communist Party of Greece, the Communist Party of Turkey was represented by a party delegation including TKP General Secretary Kemal Okuyan.

Kemal Okuyan’s speech at the meeting highlighted the importance of the ideological framework on which the joint activities of the parties are based, the contribution of the European Communist Action to the current political struggle and the importance of acting with a dynamism that will attract the attention of workers and intellectuals, as well as other parties and groups that are not part of this co-operation .

The European Communist Initiative, the predecessor of the European Communist Action, which had been active since 2013, had ceased to function and dissolved last September due to the political and ideological positions taken by some parties about international developments that were incompatible with the principles of the Initiative.

The foundation, which took place after a short period of two months, is important in terms of ensuring the continuity of cooperation between communist and workers’ parties in Europe.

Besides TKP, following parties took part in the founding meeting, in total of 12 parties:

The Party of Labour of Austria, the Communist Workers’ Party – for Peace and Socialism (Finland), the Communist Revolutionary Party of France, the Communist Party of Greece, the Workers’ Party of Ireland, the Communist Front (Italy), the New Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Communist Party of the Workers of Spain, the Communist Party of Sweden, the Swiss Communist Party, the Communist Party of Turkey and the Union of Communists of Ukraine.

The statement of solidarity with the Palestinian people accepted at the meeting will be the first public statement of the European Communist Action.
